Conference on Gender Justice and Transforming Masculinities Concludes at KCC

The two-day conference on Gender Justice and Transforming Masculinities successfully concluded today, hosted by Kantipur City College (KCC) in collaboration with UNNAT Nepal, University of the Fraser Valley (Canada), University of Calgary (Canada), and the Southwestern Center for Research and PhD Studies.

The conference brought together experts, researchers, and practitioners dedicated to fostering gender equity and reimagining masculinities for a more just and inclusive society. Through interactive sessions, participants explored issues of gender justice, transformative approaches to masculinity, and collective action for meaningful change.

✅ Media’s Role in Women’s Empowerment – Yubanath Lamsal, senior journalist & former ambassador to Denmark, emphasized the need for media to prioritize gender justice issues.
✅ NHRC’s Commitment – Manju Khatiwada, NHRC officer, highlighted efforts to safeguard women’s rights and policy recommendations for gender equity.
✅ Challenges for Survivors – Mira Kunwar, social activist and a person living with HIV, discussed the stigma surrounding human trafficking survivors and HIV-positive individuals.
✅ Men’s Role in Gender Justice – Sajog Thakuri, from Hami Dajuvai, stressed the importance of involving men in gender discussions, citing research on young men (19-25) involved in sexual violence and the need for targeted awareness programs.

Kantipur City College successfully organized the International Conference on AI and Engineering (ICAIE 2025): Challenges and Opportunities today. The event brought together distinguished guests, keynote speakers, presenters, and participants to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various engineering sectors and its potential impact on sustainable development.
Opening Ceremony
The event began with the Opening Proceedings, led by Mr. Raju Kattel, Principal of Kantipur City College and Program Chair. The distinguished guests included: Chief Guest: Er. The keynote address by Prof. Dr. Deepak Prasar focused on “Empowering Cyber Defense: The Transformative Role of AI in Cybersecurity and Threat Intelligence in Developing Countries.” His insightful presentation emphasized the role of AI in addressing cybersecurity challenges in developing nations, followed by an engaging Q&A session.

The conference featured two invited presentations:
1. Prof. Dr. Sudan Jha: “Addressing Digital Infrastructure Gaps, Lack of Skilled Workforce, and Ethical Concerns in AI Adoption.”
2. Dr. Ritu Raj Lamsal: “AI and IoT Integration in Engineering: Use Cases, Challenges, and Opportunities in Nepal.”

The highlight of the conference was the panel discussion moderated by Mr. Vivek S. Rana, Digital Enterprise Architect at the Center for AI Digital Policy (US). Panelists included: Dr. Suresh Manandhar, CEO, Wiseyak, Mr. Anil Kumar Dutta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Communications Information Technology and Dr. Manoj Shakya, Assistant Professor, Kathmandu University.

Cyber Security Awareness Program Conducted for BCA and BIT Students

An enlightening Cyber Security Awareness Program was successfully organized for the BCA and BIT First Semester students, in collaboration with the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau. The event aimed to raise awareness about cyber threats and promote safe digital practices among the participants.

An expert from the Cyber Bureau led the session, discussing critical topics such as common cyber threats like phishing, hacking, and identity theft, as well as the importance of strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and Nepal’s legal framework on cyber crimes. Practical tips for safe online behavior and real-life case studies added depth to the presentation.

Students engaged actively, posing questions and sharing experiences, making the session highly interactive and informative. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Head of the IT Department and a student representative, emphasizing the importance of cyber security in today’s digital age.

The event proved to be a significant step in empowering students with knowledge to protect their digital presence and mitigate cyber risks.

 

Workshop Recap: Empowering BBA Students Through Mind Mapping and Leadership Skills

Kathmandu, January, 2025 – Kantipur City College successfully hosted a workshop on 18th Poush 2081 at its hall in Putalisadak, aimed at providing BBA students with clarity in their academic and career paths while fostering essential leadership skills. The event featured two engaging sessions, focusing on personal growth, career planning, and leadership development.

The first session, led by Er. Ravi Khanal, Career Coach and Head of the Student Affairs Department, introduced students to the concept of mind mapping. This innovative tool encouraged participants to visualize their academic journey, career aspirations, and personal goals. Through interactive exercises, students created personalized roadmaps, fostering self-discovery and strategic planning to align their academic efforts with long-term ambitions.

In the second session, Dr. Deepak Bikram Thapa Chhetri, Director of Engineering at KCC, introduced the “Leadership and Management” program, a unique 8-credit initiative integrated into all eight semesters of the BBA curriculum. This program focuses on equipping students with practical leadership and managerial skills, ensuring they graduate as industry-ready professionals capable of thriving in dynamic environments. Dr. Chhetri emphasized the program’s role in preparing students to excel as future leaders in their respective fields.

The Department of Continuing Education (DCE) at Kanitpur City College, in collaboration with Broadways Infosys, conducted 40-hour Machine Learning Training Classes for BE Computer VII Semester students. The program covered key ML concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, algorithms, data preprocessing, and hands-on projects using tools like Python and Tensor Flow. Delivered by expert trainers, the classes emphasized practical applications, allowing students to work on real-world datasets. Highly appreciated by students, this initiative bridged the gap between academia and industry, equipping participants with essential skills in AI and data science.

One day Workshop on WordPress

On December 21, 2024, the Department of Continuing Education (DCE) at Kantipur City College (KCC) organized a one-day workshop on WordPress for BCA and BIT 7th semester students. The workshop aimed to provide practical knowledge about building and managing websites using WordPress, one of the world’s most popular content management systems. Facilitated by experienced professionals, the sessions covered a range of topics, including an introduction to the WordPress ecosystem, website creation, theme customization, and plugin integration. Students also participated in hands-on activities, building basic websites and experimenting with tools like Yoast SEO and Woo Commerce. The interactive environment encouraged active learning and allowed participants to gain valuable insights into career opportunities in web development. Students appreciated the workshop for its practical relevance and clarity, with many expressing interest in advanced sessions in the future. On 4th December 2024, the Department of Continuing Education (DCE) at Kanitpur City College, in collaboration with Broadways Infosys, organized a one-day workshop on Django for BE Computer IV Semester students. The workshop aimed to introduce students to Django, a powerful Python web framework, through hands-on sessions and expert guidance. Participants learned to set up Django environments, create projects, and work with models, views, templates, and databases. The interactive sessions also highlighted real-world applications of Django, enhancing students’ understanding of its practical uses. The initiative was well-received, equipping students with essential web development skills and showcasing the college’s commitment to integrating industry-oriented learning.

One-Day Workshop on Software Engineering at Kanitpur City College

On 26th November 2024, the Department of Continuing Education (DCE) at Kanitpur City College organized a one-day workshop on Software Engineering for BE Computer VII Semester students, led by Mr. Anju Tamrakar, a seasoned expert in the field. The workshop focused on providing a detailed understanding of software development methodologies, including the software development life cycle (SDLC), Agile and waterfall models, requirements analysis, design, testing, and maintenance strategies.
