BE Civil 7th Semester Students Visit Seti Hydropower Plant

Pokhara, Nepal
As part of the Hydropower Engineering field study, students of BE Civil Engineering, 7th Semester from Kantipur City College conducted an educational visit to the Seti Hydropower Plant in Pokhara. During the visit, students closely observed key headworks components including the weir, undersluice, spillway, intake, trashrack, gravel trap, forebay, and flushing gates. The visit provided in-depth understanding of how these structures function collectively for water diversion, sediment management, and efficient hydropower system operation.

The students also explored the powerhouse section, where they gained practical knowledge of turbine mechanisms and the process of electricity generation. Engineers at the site explained operational aspects and safety considerations, enriching the students' learning experience. This field visit served as an important bridge between theoretical classroom concepts and real-world engineering practice. Such hands-on exposure enhances technical competence and prepares students to become skilled and responsible professionals in the field of hydropower and water resources engineering. Kantipur City College continues to emphasize experiential learning to develop capable future engineers equipped with both academic knowledge and practical insight.

Civil Engineering Students (2021 Batch) Visit Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project

Kathmandu, Nepal
Civil Engineering students of the 2021 Batch successfully completed an educational field visit to the Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project, Nepal's first and only road tunnel project of its kind. The site visit offered students valuable first-hand exposure to large-scale tunnel engineering, allowing them to observe modern construction methodologies, excavation techniques, safety protocols, and real-time project management practices. Such practical insights are difficult to fully grasp through classroom instruction alone.

During the visit, students interacted with project professionals and gained a deeper understanding of the technical, managerial, and safety challenges involved in tunnel construction. This experience significantly enhanced their academic learning and broadened their perspective on infrastructure development in Nepal. The institution extends its sincere gratitude to the Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project Team, JV NK–EJEC–NCC, GEOCE, and ITECO Nepal for their valuable coordination and support, which made the visit both productive and insightful. Educational field visits like this play a vital role in shaping competent, skilled, and socially responsible engineers who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to Nepal's growing infrastructure sector. Tech Talk – Episode 2: Exploring Cybersecurity, Ethical Hacking & Digital Forensics in Nepal

Kantipur City College successfully hosted Tech Talk – Episode 2, organized by the KCC IT Club, featuring Aryan Shrestha, a Security Analyst / Red Teamer, as the guest speaker. The session delivered valuable insights into the rapidly growing fields of cybersecurity, ethical hacking, and digital forensics, highlighting their importance and expanding career opportunities in Nepal's evolving digital landscape. Drawing from real-world experience, the speaker shared practical knowledge on security threats, defensive strategies, and investigative techniques used in modern cybersecurity practices.

The event was highly interactive, featuring live discussions, practical examples, and an engaging question-and-answer session. The enthusiastic participation and curiosity of attendees reflected the strong learning culture within the KCC IT Club community. This Tech Talk episode not only enhanced technical awareness but also inspired students to explore future-ready skills essential for today's technology-driven world. The organizing team extends sincere appreciation to the speaker and all participants for making the session impactful and memorable. With the success of Episode 2, excitement is already building for Tech Talk – Episode 3, which promises to bring more insightful discussions and learning opportunities.

Orientation Program 2025 Conducted for Civil and Computer Engineering Students

Kantipur City College
Kantipur City College successfully organized the Orientation Program 2025 for newly enrolled students of the Department of Engineering (Civil and Computer). The program was designed to warmly welcome the new batch and provide a clear understanding of the academic structure, facilities, and expectations of their engineering journey at KCC. The session began with an inspiring address by Dr. Deepak Bikram Thapa Chhetri, Director of Engineering, who highlighted the college's vision, academic culture, and student-focused learning environment. Er. Subashraj Karnikar formally welcomed the freshers and introduced them to the Engineering Department and its academic framework.

Mr. Prabin Shrestha, Civil Engineering Evening Shift Coordinator, briefed students on the civil engineering curriculum and future career prospects. Er. Pankaj Shrestha emphasized the importance of engineering laboratories in enhancing practical and experimental learning. The academic evaluation system and internal assessment procedures were clearly explained by Er. Bashanta Singh Thagunna. Students were also informed about project-based learning and engagement opportunities by Ms. Jeena Shrestha. Ms. Apsara Karki Rana oriented the students on KCC Library rules, resources, and academic support services, while Mr. Rajiv Timalsina discussed college administration policies and discipline guidelines. The orientation program was highly interactive, informative, and energizing, setting a positive tone for the academic journey ahead.

SDG Ambassador 2025 Team Completes WASH Excursion at ENPHO

Kathmandu, Nepal | November 21, 2025
The SDG Ambassador 2025 Team successfully completed an enriching educational visit focused on WASH (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation), Faecal Sludge Management, and Urban Solid Waste Management at ENPHO (Environment and Public Health Organization). The visit was conducted under the initiative "Empowering Youth for Nature-Based Solutions through Social Artistry – WASH Excursion @ ENPHO." The program aimed to strengthen youth understanding of sustainable water, sanitation, and waste systems while promoting leadership for environmental action.

During the excursion, participants explored a wide range of WASH technologies and models, including wastewater treatment systems, faecal sludge management processes, hygiene promotion approaches, and community-based urban solid waste management solutions. The hands-on exposure enabled students to understand how integrated sanitation and waste systems contribute to healthier and more sustainable urban environments. The session emphasized the critical role of youth-led initiatives in advancing SDG 6, highlighting how proper sanitation practices, responsible waste handling, and effective sludge management directly support cleaner cities and improved public health. This experience empowered the SDG Ambassadors to embrace environmental leadership and advocate for improved sanitation practices.

SDG Ambassador Field Visit to ICIMOD's Living Mountain Lab

The SDG Ambassador Team participated in an insightful educational field visit to ICIMOD's Living Mountain Lab, a center dedicated to Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) where science, traditional knowledge, and innovation come together to protect and sustain mountain ecosystems. During the visit, the ambassadors observed climate-smart practices and learned how local communities adapt to climate challenges through sustainable approaches. The experience provided practical exposure to real-world solutions that enhance environmental resilience while respecting cultural and ecological values.

The session offered meaningful insights into climate action, community-led adaptation, and ecosystem-based management, reinforcing the importance of youth engagement in addressing global environmental challenges. The Living Mountain Lab served as a powerful example of how research and tradition can be integrated to safeguard fragile mountain environments. The team extends sincere gratitude to ICIMOD for their warm guidance, knowledge sharing, and for creating an engaging learning environment. This visit inspired participants to stay grounded in shared values and strengthened their commitment to collaborative action for a greener and more sustainable future. Library and Information Science Level – III Training Concludes Successfully

Kantipur City College proudly supported the successful completion of the three-month "Library and Information Science Level – III" training program, which commenced on Asar 21, 2082 and concluded on Kartik 1, 2082 (Saturday). The closing ceremony was held under the chairpersonship of Mrs. Saroja Shrestha, Chairperson of the Library Management and Information Service Center, with Dr. Surendra KC as the Chief Guest. The event was also graced by representatives from several organizations and marked by the enthusiastic participation of the trainees who successfully completed the course.

This training program provided participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in library management and information science, reinforcing the role of well-trained professionals in promoting access to knowledge and information resources across Nepal. Kantipur City College extends heartfelt congratulations to all participants for their dedication and success and expresses sincere gratitude to the organizers, trainers, and guests for their valuable contributions in strengthening library and information science education in the country. KCC Family Celebrates Laxmi Puja 2082

The Kantipur City College (KCC) family joyfully celebrated Laxmi Puja 2082 within the college premises. Though only available members participated, the atmosphere was filled with warmth, positivity, and the spirit of togetherness. The celebration emphasized faith, gratitude, and community, reminding everyone that even in simple gatherings, shared moments bring true richness and strengthen bonds within the KCC family. The traditional celebration of Laxmi Puja holds special significance in Nepali culture, symbolizing prosperity, wisdom, and well-being.

The college extends its heartfelt wishes to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and well-wishers, hoping that Goddess Laxmi blesses everyone with happiness, prosperity, and success in all their endeavors. These cultural celebrations are an integral part of KCC's commitment to maintaining strong community ties and preserving cultural heritage while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of the college family. Workshop on Workshop-Based Teaching & Learning Conducted at KCC

The Research Management Cell (RMC) of Kantipur City College successfully organized a workshop on "Workshop-Based Teaching and Learning Methodology", focusing on innovative strategies to enhance active student participation and engagement in classrooms. The session was led by Dr. Deepak Bikram Thapa Chhetri, Director of Engineering and Head of the Civil Engineering Department, who shared his extensive experience in hands-on, workshop-based teaching practices. He highlighted how interactive activities, discussions, and practical exercises help bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

Dr. Pralhad Karki, Managing Director of Kantipur City College, also addressed faculty members, emphasizing the importance of participatory and research-oriented teaching methods. He encouraged educators to adopt workshop-based approaches to foster innovation, critical thinking, and practical understanding among students. The workshop reinforced KCC's commitment to experiential learning, academic excellence, and a strong research culture, ensuring students are equipped with both knowledge and applied skills for future success. Special Lecture-Presentation on Narrative Journalism at KCC

Kantipur City College successfully hosted a Special Lecture-Presentation on Narrative Journalism, in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada, Newsreel Asia, and Media Action Nepal. The program brought together media professionals, students, and academicians to explore the art of storytelling in modern journalism. The session was led by Dr. Deepak Bikram Thapa Chhetri, Program Lead, with a welcome speech by Dr. Janardan Bista, Deputy Director at Radio Nepal and KCC alumnus. Inauguration remarks were delivered by Laxman Datta Pant, Global Media Advocate and Founding Chairperson of Media Action Nepal (KCC alumnus).

The main session focused on narrative journalism, featuring speakers from Newsreel Asia: Vishal Arora (Founding Editor - Storytelling & Director), Harshita Rathore (Founding Editor - Video & Director), and Surabhi Singh (Founding Member & Director). Key highlights included human-centered storytelling, mobile storytelling using smartphones for faster and cost-effective journalism, and visual storytelling techniques. Narrative journalism blends facts with personal experiences and emotions, humanizing news to build empathy and deeper understanding. The session provided KCC students and faculty with practical insights into modern media trends, content creation, and storytelling techniques that are essential in today's digital media landscape.

KCC Students Win 1st Position at ACIT Tech Fest 2.0

ACME Engineering College
Kantipur City College proudly congratulates its 7th Semester Engineering & IT students for securing 1st Position at ACIT Tech Fest 2.0 – Project Exhibition & Competition, organized by ACME Engineering College. The winning project was a Working Cascading Hydropower Model designed and showcased by Bhumi Chalise, Reshik Raj Karki, Aashish Niraula (Designers & Exhibitors), along with Bijaya Jyoti Pun, Bashanta Tripathi (Designers), and Bishnu Shrestha (Exhibitor). The project integrated Engineering, IT, and Electronics to create a real-time interactive display demonstrating water flow dynamics, hydropower components, and electricity generation through turbines.

The system was showcased through a laptop interface and display board, making complex hydropower mechanisms engaging and easy to understand. This innovative model directly supports SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Kantipur City College commends the team's creativity, teamwork, and dedication, which once again brought honor and pride to the institution. The project demonstrates the practical application of classroom learning and showcases how student innovation can contribute to sustainable development goals, inspiring other students to pursue creative and impactful projects.

SDSN Club Engages with Caragh Puttick on Women's Inclusion in DRR

Kantipur City College's SDSN Club had the privilege of interacting with Caragh Puttick, a professional working on women's inclusion and participation in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) projects in Nepal. During the session, Caragh Puttick learned about how the SDSN Club engages students—especially female students—in meaningful activities within and beyond the college, fostering leadership and practical engagement in sustainable development initiatives. Several ambassadors shared their inspiring journeys, highlighting their contributions to community service and SDG-related activities.

Nagendra Shahi, Club Secretary, presented an overview of the club's activities, emphasizing its role in nurturing leadership, teamwork, and social impact among students. Er. Khanal Ravi Omyth, mentor of the SDG Ambassadors Program, elaborated on the program's objectives and how students are collectively advancing Gender Equality (SDG 5) and broader Sustainable Development Goals. The session reinforced the importance of youth leadership, inclusivity, and proactive engagement in shaping a sustainable and equitable future. The SDSN Club continues to inspire students to learn, lead, and make impactful contributions in society, particularly in areas related to gender equality and disaster resilience.

Interactive Session with Dr. Moinul Islam Zaber on B.Tech. in AI Pathways

Kantipur City College had the honor of welcoming Dr. Moinul Islam Zaber, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, for an interactive session on "Pathways for B.Tech. in AI Students." The session brought together faculty members from the IT Department and focused on emerging topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Explainable AI, and future career pathways. Dr. Zaber shared valuable insights into skill development, industry trends, and research opportunities, providing guidance that will benefit both faculty and students as KCC launches its B.Tech. in AI program.

The discussion was highly interactive, allowing participants to explore practical applications, academic strategies, and professional pathways in the rapidly evolving field of AI. Topics covered included the importance of building strong fundamentals in mathematics and programming, understanding machine learning algorithms, staying updated with latest AI research, and developing practical projects. Kantipur City College extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Zaber for his expertise, time, and guidance, which will contribute significantly to shaping the future of students pursuing AI and related technologies. WASH Workshop Empowers SDG Ambassadors at KCC

The Young and New SDG Ambassadors participated in an insightful WASH Workshop at Kantipur City College (KCC) Hall, organized under the theme "Empowering Youth for Nature-Based Solutions through Social Artistry – WASH." The event was conducted in collaboration with Kalpa Academy Center for Governance and Sustainable Development and ICA Nepal, bringing together passionate young leaders to explore global challenges and strengthen their roles as responsible global citizens. The workshop was led by Ms. Srijana Thapa, supported by WASH expert Er. Khanal Ravi Omyth, along with mentees Mr. Nagendra Shahi, Mr. Pƙãbïñ ƘÊ, Mr. Lav Pandit, Ms. Nitu Pandit, and Mr. Amin Karki.

Key learning highlights included the CommunVibe Learning Approach (collaborative and participatory learning), F-Diagram (understanding pathways of disease transmission), and practical insights & discussions on strategies for community impact in health and hygiene. The session equipped ambassadors with knowledge, tools, and practical skills to promote sustainable health and hygiene practices in their communities. Kantipur City College provided a valuable platform to nurture youth leadership, critical thinking, and community-driven action toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants gained hands-on experience with social artistry techniques for community engagement and behavior change communication.

Entrepreneurship Talk Series – Episode 5: From Vision to Impact

Kantipur City College hosted Episode 5 of the Entrepreneurship Talk Series, titled "From Vision to Impact," featuring Ms. Sushma Sharma, Founder & CEO of Phool Prasadh, Managing Director of Himalayan Tranquility, Founder President of Women Can, and Business Mentor at Idea Studio. Ms. Sharma shared her inspiring journey from banking to building sustainable ventures, emphasizing lessons in resilience, positivity, and creating impactful businesses. Her insights highlighted how entrepreneurship can contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production).

The session was organized by the BBA 2021 Batch at KCC and held at KCC Hall, providing students with practical guidance, motivation, and strategies for building sustainable and socially responsible enterprises. Ms. Sharma emphasized the importance of identifying genuine market needs, building strong teams, maintaining ethical business practices, and creating value for all stakeholders. This talk reinforced the importance of vision-driven entrepreneurship and encouraged students to transform ideas into meaningful impact in their communities. The interactive session included Q&A where students gained insights on startup challenges, funding strategies, and scaling businesses while maintaining social and environmental responsibility.

KCC SDSN Club Hosts National Workshop on Youth in Social Enterprises

International Youth Day 2025
On International Youth Day 2025, the SDSN Club at Kantipur City College successfully hosted the National Workshop on Youth in Social Enterprises, in collaboration with the Nepal Development Initiative and partner organizations. The event brought together young changemakers, experts, and academicians to explore how youth can drive social impact and innovation. The workshop featured a series of insightful sessions and panel discussions, providing knowledge, motivation, and strategies for youth engagement in social enterprise ecosystems. Er. Ravi Khanal delivered an engaging address on the role of social enterprises within academia, highlighting opportunities for student-led initiatives.

Keynote speakers included Mr. Arjun Bhattarai (President, NGO Federation of Nepal), Mr. Rakesh Karna (Country Director, DZi Foundation & Steering Committee Member, AIN), Ms. Prakriti Mainali (Expert Entrepreneur), Mr. Puru Bista (Nepal Development Initiative), Ms. Sita Pandey (Muna Bazar - discussing pitching, challenges, and opportunities), and Mr. Rupak Pariyar (President, HOPE Academy). The event concluded with remarks from Dr. Pralhad Karki, Managing Director, and Mr. Raju Kattel, Principal, along with inspiring youth presentations showcasing innovative ideas and real-world social impact. Events like these empower youth to lead social transformation, contributing meaningfully toward a sustainable and equitable future.
