Tanoj Dulal, Kantipur City College, a pioneer educational institution in Nepal to adopt Project Based Learning as its teaching methodology where students carry out projects related to their course of study which not only help them to understand the course materials but also boost up their knowledge & confidence towards application of what they have learnt. As a part of Project Based Learning, B.E. Civil First semester students through “Truss Bridge Project” built bridge trusses using popsicle sticks based on different truss bridge design principles and tested the bridge truss by applying load to the bridge till its failure. The performance of bridge was assessed by dividing the weight of load at failure by weight of bridge. The bridge with highest performance (score) was declared winner. The project helped the students to observe & analyze load transfer and structure failure mechanism in bridge trusses. The enthusiastic participation of Civil Engineering students and the positive feedback from students about the project highly reflects the urge for such projects at college for students to help them understand the course materials especially in the technical field like Civil Engineering.
