Disaster Awareness and Simulation Exercise: A Life-Saving Experience at KCC

  • January 31, 2023

Kantipur City College and ICMS, with support from Youth Mappers, SDSN, Kalpa Academy and SDG-Academy, recently organized a “Disaster Awareness and Simulation Exercise” for 2nd semester students, teachers, and staff. The program aimed to educate participants about emergency safe actions and evacuation drills, as well as to equip them with basic first aid skills and knowledge about different types of fires and fire extinguishing techniques.

The day started with a disaster drill, where participants were able to put their knowledge into practice and understand the importance of quick and calm actions during an emergency situation. The program then continued with sessions on basic first aid, where participants learned how to respond to common injuries and provide initial medical assistance.

The next session was focused on different types of fires and fire extinguishing techniques, where participants learned how to identify different types of fires, use fire extinguishers correctly, and take appropriate actions in case of a fire emergency.

The program received positive feedback from all participants, who felt more confident and prepared to handle disaster situations. “I never thought disaster preparedness could be so much fun and informative at the same time. I feel much more confident and equipped to handle any situation now,” said one of the participants.

This initiative by Kantipur City College and ICMS, supported by Youth Mappers, SDSN, Kalpa Academy and SDG-Academy, highlights the importance of disaster awareness and preparedness in our communities. With regular programs like these, we can ensure that our communities are safe and prepared for any disaster that may occur.
